New Products October 2007

This is incredible news for people with old internal hard drives who want to access them on their new computers. It’s called the 2.5 - 3.5 SATA HDD Stage Rack USB v2.0. Have you ever had an old computer crash, but the hard drive inside still had valuable information on it? You had to usually open up a new computer, and install it. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes you needed extra installation software in order for the new computer to recognize it. And of course, you didn’t have the drivers available to do this. And who hasn’t opened up a computer case to find that there isn’t a free SATA connection on the cable inside. Better yet, if it’s a newer computer, no SATA cable is inside at all, or the motherboard doesn’t even support SATA. This device is such a lifesaver, and is compatible with any USB 2.0 port. It is supported by the following operating systems: Windows2000/XP/Vista, MacPro, Power Macintosh G5, Mac mini, eMac, iMac, MacBookPro, Power Book G4, MacBookiBook G4. Simply plug this device, which looks like a docking station you’re used to seeing for an IPOD, camera, or other portable device, into you’re USB 2.0 connection in your computer. Then take a standard 3.5 or 2.5 internal hard drive, and plug it on top. Its that simple! Your computer will recognize it as a standard storage device such as any USB thumb drive, SD Card, ect. There you can access all your files and information like any other folders on your computer. This is an invaluable device for home or business, and is priced right under $50.

Another fun product is the MP4 Watch II – If you are looking for the ultimate in 'take your media on the go' products, then look no further than the MP4 Watch II from usb.brando.com.hk. This little device is not only a full functioning watch, but also allows you to look at photos, listen to music, audio books and FM Radio, watch videos, and record audio! This is a perfect all in one entertainment device for the casual user, and also a portable device for the businessman or student looking to record all important lectures and business meetings. This device has it all except for a phone.

Unlike the first incarnation of this device, the MP4 Watch comes with an internal speaker along with a headphone jack. The speaker is loud enough for several to enjoy in most places, unless you are at a loud party or crowded venue. When plugging headphones into the device, it delivers great quality sound that rivals the best 'stand alone' mp3 players on the market today. Music is crisp, and bass is well defined on any of its preset equalizer settings. It is however kind of awkward to exercise with the device while listening to music, if you have it on your wrist with headphones. I tend to move my arms when I jog, so I find it easier to take the watch off and hook it to my belt loop, and that works just fine.

Watching video, or viewing pictures on the device is a pleasure thanks to its ultra bright screen. Even in direct sunlight, I found no problem seeing video on the device. The resolution is a crisp 160x128 on its 1.8 inch screen. You don’t get the kind of detail in photos as you would on say an Ipod video, but I was surprised how good photos actually looked. Video on the device comes out clean with only a few stutters here and there, but really great to look at.

The voice recorder works quite well on the device, and picks up clear with the ability to record in 128kbps mp3 quality. You don’t have to be right up on the subject you are recording either, which is a nice touch that makes this device great for recording meetings. And you can record quite a bit, since models of the MP4 Watch II come in 2 and 4 GB sizes.

The MP4 Watch II can also be used like a standard thumb drive. This is handy so you can carry other data on it. You may not be able to access data not compatible for the MP4 Watch II, but you can at least carry it with you where you can access it via computer using standard USB connection.

All in all the MP4 Watch II is an exciting device, and worth having for on the go. At $92 for the 2GB and $118 for the 4GB, it’s a steal for its portability and functionality.
